The highly anticipated 2026 Jeep Recon is finally here, marking a significant step forward for the brand in the electric vehicle segment. First teased in 2022, the production version of this rugged, all-electric SUV is set to launch early next year, starting with the trail-ready Moab trim. The Recon promises to deliver the iconic Jeep experience with zero tailpipe emissions.
Performance and Capability
The Recon boasts a powerful dual-motor setup generating a combined 650 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque. This translates to a brisk 0-60 mph time of just 3.6 seconds. Equipped with a four-wheel-drive system and the coveted Trail Rated badge, the Recon is designed to conquer challenging terrain.
The rear motor features a 15:1 final drive ratio paired with an electric locking differential, while the front motor uses an 11:1 ratio with an open differential. Jeep’s Selec-Terrain management system in the Moab trim offers five drive modes, including a dedicated Rock mode for extreme off-road conditions.
Dimensions and Design
The Recon is approximately five inches longer than a four-door Wrangler, but its six-inch shorter wheelbase enhances maneuverability. Weighing in at 6,112 pounds, it is slightly wider than the Wrangler while maintaining a similar height. Despite the larger overall size, cargo space remains competitive.
The Recon’s aggressive stance is complemented by 33-inch tires, providing 9.1 inches of ground clearance. Approach, departure, and breakover angles measure 33.8 degrees, 33.1 degrees, and 23.3 degrees respectively, ensuring optimal obstacle negotiation. Jeep has fine-tuned the throttle response to deliver controlled torque for a satisfying off-road experience.
Powertrain and Range
The Recon rides on the STLA Large platform, shared with the Dodge Charger Daytona EV and Jeep Wagoneer S. Its 100.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack provides an estimated range of up to 250 miles. Top speed is electronically limited to 112 mph.
The iconic seven-slot Jeep grille remains a prominent design feature, now illuminated for a modern touch. U-shaped LED daytime running lights flank the LED headlights, creating a distinctive front fascia.
Rugged Exterior
The front bumper, equipped with red recovery hooks, protrudes forward to protect the LED lighting and underlying hardware. Wrangler-inspired LED taillights and a swing-gate rear end complete the exterior design, including a full-size spare tire carrier.
Like the Wrangler, the Recon’s doors are removable, offering an open-air driving experience. Modular cargo panels can be swapped out to customize the interior space. The swing-gate glass and rear quarter windows are also removable, and an optional Sky One-Touch Power Top provides open-top motoring at the touch of a button.
Tech-Forward Interior
Inside, the Recon features vertically oriented screens: a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.5-inch center infotainment screen running Uconnect 5. Physical buttons are minimized in favor of digital HVAC controls. A premium Alpine sound system with under-seat speakers delivers high-quality audio.
With the second-row seats folded down, the Recon offers up to 65.9 cubic feet of cargo space. A front trunk, with 3.0 cubic feet of storage, can accommodate a carry-on suitcase.
Production and Availability
Jeep will begin production of the Recon at its Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico early next year. The SUV will first be available in the United States and Canada, followed by a global rollout. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
The Jeep Recon represents a bold step forward for the brand, combining electric power with the legendary off-road capability that Jeep is known for. This vehicle is poised to appeal to both EV enthusiasts and traditional Jeep fans alike
