Genesis has prematurely revealed its upcoming flagship SUV, the GV90, in leaked images circulating online. The vehicle is set to be offered in two distinct configurations, including an ultra-luxury variant with rear-hinged “coach doors” similar to those found on Rolls-Royce models.
Two Versions: Luxury and Ultra-Luxury
The leaked image, first shared on Instagram by @shorts_car, showcases the GV90 alongside Genesis’ current SUV lineup (GV60, GV70, GV80, and GV80 Coupe). One version features distinctive wheels reminiscent of the Electrified G80 sedan and the long-wheelbase G90 limousine. The standout feature is the pair of rear-hinged doors, a design element usually reserved for the highest-end vehicles.
Genesis will also offer a standard GV90 with conventional front-hinged rear doors, providing customers with a choice between luxury and extreme opulence. The model with coach doors is expected to be a higher-specification trim, positioning Genesis directly against ultra-luxury rivals.
Technology and Powertrain
The GV90 is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s new eM dedicated EV platform, equipped with next-generation battery technology and a standard dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. There is also the possibility of an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain option, which combines a petrol engine with an electric drivetrain to maximize range.
The production model closely resembles the Neolun concept unveiled in 2024, which Genesis claims is now feasible for production thanks to advancements in door and pillar configurations. The Neolun concept featured swiveling front seats and deployable side steps, though it remains uncertain if these features will carry over to the final vehicle.
Significance and Market Positioning
The GV90 represents Genesis’ ambition to compete in the ultra-luxury SUV segment. Offering coach doors, a feature rarely seen outside of Rolls-Royce and high-end bespoke vehicles, demonstrates a commitment to exclusivity. This move could attract buyers seeking a premium experience without the traditional price tag of established luxury brands.
Genesis is also preparing to launch the X Gran Equator off-roader concept, expanding its SUV lineup further. The GV90, however, is expected to be the brand’s halo vehicle, setting a new standard for luxury and innovation within the Korean automaker’s portfolio.
The GV90’s arrival signals a shift in how Genesis approaches the high-end market, aiming to deliver a blend of cutting-edge technology and traditional luxury appointments that will appeal to discerning buyers.
