Forza Horizon 6 is set to release on May 19th for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, with a PlayStation 5 version following in 2026. The latest installment in the popular Horizon series will immerse players in a sprawling Japanese landscape – five times larger than previous maps – and prominently feature Toyota’s new GR GT supercar alongside the iconic Land Cruiser on the game’s cover.
A New Horizon: Japan Takes Center Stage
The Horizon franchise, known for its accessible and social gameplay, has always been a favorite among car enthusiasts who prefer customization and open-world exploration over hardcore simulation. This edition marks the first time two vehicles from the same manufacturer have shared cover billing, highlighting Toyota’s central role in the game.
The developers at Playground Games secured early access to the GR GT prototype, allowing them to build the car into the game before its public unveiling. This collaboration extended to rigorous sound design, with Toyota’s chief project manager emphasizing the importance of authenticity. Multiple microphones were deployed both inside and outside the vehicle to capture realistic engine and drive-by audio, ensuring an immersive experience for players.
Beyond the Hype: Gameplay and Accessibility
Forza Horizon 6 distinguishes itself by prioritizing accessibility. Players start not as established racing legends, but as tourists arriving at the festival. This approach ensures a gradual progression, allowing players to earn their way to high-performance vehicles like the GR GT.
The game will feature a massive car roster, with expectations high for a garage exceeding 900 vehicles – similar to Forza Horizon 5. Playground Games has not yet revealed the full list, but given the Japanese setting, players can expect a significant number of Japanese vehicles, including the Toyota Land Cruiser and Honda e.
The game’s art style blends photorealistic textures with traditional Japanese Sumi-e ink painting, creating a unique visual aesthetic. The developers are committed to delivering an authentic experience, ensuring that the GR GT sounds as exhilarating in-game as it does in reality.
Forza Horizon 6 represents a significant step forward in open-world racing, offering an expansive environment, realistic sound design, and accessible gameplay. The combination of cutting-edge graphics, authentic vehicle dynamics, and a massive car list promises an immersive experience for both casual players and hardcore car enthusiasts.
