Genesis Recalls Over 83,000 Vehicles Due to Screen Failures

Genesis is recalling 83,877 vehicles across several of its models due to a critical software flaw that can cause infotainment and instrument cluster screens to unexpectedly shut down while driving. The recall affects select 2025 and 2026 model year G80, Electrified G80, GV60, GV70, Electrified GV70, and GV80 vehicles.

The Problem: Intermittent Screen Blackouts

The issue stems from a glitch within the vehicle’s HD radio memory storage software logic. When the fault occurs, the infotainment and instrument panel screens can reboot mid-drive. This means drivers could temporarily lose access to vital information such as speedometer readings, fuel levels, and critical warning signals.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents confirm that this problem has led to 237 complaints between September 2024 and January 2026. Though no accidents or injuries have been directly linked to the issue yet, the loss of essential driving data creates an obvious risk.

How Genesis is Addressing the Issue

Genesis began rolling out a software fix in production vehicles as early as November 2025. The recall is now being issued to update existing vehicles, ensuring that all affected models receive the necessary software correction. Owners will be notified and instructed to bring their vehicles to a Genesis service center for the free repair.

Why This Matters: The Growing Reliance on Digital Displays

This recall highlights the increasing reliance on digital displays in modern vehicles. As automakers integrate more functions into central screens, failures become more impactful. The loss of a traditional gauge cluster is no longer just an inconvenience; it’s a safety concern.

The incident underscores the need for rigorous software testing and failsafe mechanisms in automotive systems.

Genesis will contact affected owners directly. The recall is a critical step toward resolving the issue and ensuring driver safety.
