A North Carolina rancher learned the hard way that unsecured cargo and automatic car washes don’t mix. Kyle Corbett recently caused a bizarre incident when high-tensile fencing wire in the bed of his Ford F-Series pickup became entangled in the car wash brushes, damaging another vehicle in the process.
The Incident Unfolds
Corbett had purchased a reel of heavy-duty wire for ranch fencing and, without thinking, drove straight into a local car wash. As the brushes spun, they quickly wrapped around the wire, turning it into a makeshift flail. The resulting chaos then struck the Ford Fusion that was waiting behind him. Though the full extent of the damage isn’t shown in viral TikTok footage, paintwork and potentially other body panels were likely destroyed by the wire-wrapped brushes.
“It sounded like a war zone,” Corbett admitted, describing how the wire quickly wrapped up and thrashed against the following car.
Responsibility and Aftermath
The question of who will pay for the damages is now up in the air. Many online commentators suggest that Corbett’s insurance should cover the car wash and the Fusion, estimating potential costs in the tens of thousands of dollars. Others point to the car wash staff, arguing that they should have inspected the truck bed before allowing it through.
The incident highlights the importance of securing loose items in pickup trucks and serves as a cautionary tale against rushing through car washes with unsecured loads. While the situation is unfortunate for the Fusion’s owner, it also underscores how quickly a simple oversight can escalate into a costly and chaotic mess.
