29

Two men from Mooloolaba are facing multiple charges in Brisbane Magistrates Court following a series of alleged offenses committed in under an hour on Sunday, March 1st. The pair allegedly used a silver Holden Rodeo to strike vehicles and steal from pedestrians across seven suburbs in the city’s north.

Timeline of Events

The incidents began at approximately 4:42 AM when police received reports of a man attempting to stop traffic at the intersection of Gympie Road and Hamilton Road in Chermside. Within minutes, the vehicle was allegedly involved in hit-and-run collisions on Lutwyche Road in Windsor (4:53 AM) and Lutwyche (4:55 AM).

The spree continued north on Gympie Road in Kedron at 5:03 AM, where another vehicle was struck. Shortly afterward, police received reports of property theft from pedestrians in Brisbane City (5:10 AM) and Chermside West (5:15 AM).

The vehicle was abandoned on the Gateway Motorway near the Wyampa Road overpass around 5:35 AM. Police have not yet clarified the suspects’ activities between the CBD theft and abandoning the vehicle.

Charges Filed

Both the 30-year-old and 38-year-old suspects have been charged with five counts each of causing grievous bodily harm, failing to comply with duties at a crash scene, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance. The full extent of the injuries sustained by victims remains unconfirmed at this time.

The rapid escalation of violent incidents suggests a severe disregard for public safety. This incident raises concerns about the potential for reckless behavior and the effectiveness of current preventative measures. The case is likely to draw attention to Queensland’s vehicle crime rates and the consequences of impaired driving.
