The 2027 Volvo EX90: Cheaper, Not Longer

The numbers are in.

Volvo finally dropped the pricing for the new 2027 EX60 in the U.S., and if you’ve been watching the compact luxury EV market, you might spot the immediate problem. The base model costs less than the BMW iX3, but it can’t drive as far on a tank.

Or battery, rather.

Volvo is leading with the P6 and P10 variants right now. The high-performance P12 will come later, and frankly, that feels like the move here. The early models are about filling a gap. Or at least trying to.

The P6 Plus

This is the entry point.

You’re looking at a rear-wheel-drive single motor that puts out 369 hp. Not scary fast. It does offer a 307-mile EPA range.

The starting price is $59,790.

That is significantly cheaper than the iX3’s $62,800 starting MSRP. So you save money. You also accept that when the BMW driver pulls away for lunch, you might want to check the nearest charger map.

If you want the Ultra trim, which adds nice interior touches and tech, you pay $66,345. That starts to overlap with the German competitor.

Saving $3,000 isn’t much when your range deficit is 120+ miles.

The P10 Step-Up

For those who need grip or just enjoy going faster, the P10 swaps to a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. Power jumps to 503 hp. Range improves slightly to 322 miles.

It doesn’t solve the range issue, but it solves the acceleration issue.

The P10 Plus starts at $62,090. Again, undercutting the base BMW. The P10 Ultra sits at $68,540. At that point, the value proposition gets blurry. You are paying nearly $7k over the iX3 base price for more power, but still less range.

Does extra torque make up for having to plug in more often? Maybe. It depends on how much you enjoy sitting in charging stalls.

Waiting on the P12

The real story comes later.

Volvo has promised the P12 trim as the performance halo. It boasts 670 hp. Two motors. And finally, the battery capacity that actually competes.

Volvo claims a 400-mile range for this beast. That’s a legitimate number. One that makes you think about taking it road-trip distance.

There’s no price yet. We expect it to start well above $70k. That’s premium territory.

So the choice is essentially binary right now. Do you buy the cheaper Volvo with shorter legs, or the BMW with the longer endurance but the higher sticker?

The EX60 looks nice inside. It handles well, supposedly. But range anxiety is real.

Maybe wait for the P12. Maybe just wait.

The segment is moving fast. 🐌
